To visit Tibet, all foreign travelers must obtain a Tibet Travel Permit through a registered travel agency in Tibet. This permits are required to enter Tibet and visit certain areas within the region, including Lhasa and Mount Everest Base Camp. The permit application process can take one to two weeks. We are a local Tibet travel agency based in Lhasa and can help you obtain the necessary permits. Bookings should be made at least one week in advance, and two weeks in advance for Mount Kailash tours.
Tibet tours can be started from various cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xining, Guangzhou, and more. Additionally, visitors can also start their Tibet tours from Nepal, as it is a neighboring country with convenient transportation options to Tibet.
For most travelers, they would like to spend 8 to 15 days to travel within Tibet. For 8 days, it is highly recommended to visit Lhasa - Yamdrok Lake - Shigatse - Mount Everest - Lhasa for classic exploration. To extend further, you can cover Mount Kailash (3 Days), Guge Kingdom & Zanda Earth Forest (1 Day), Namtso Lake (1 Day), etc.

The best time to visit Tibet is from April to October, during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons. The weather during this time is mild and comfortable, with clear skies and warm temperatures. The peak tourist season is from late June to early October. However, visiting in the shoulder seasons of April-May and mid-October to November can offer fewer crowds and lower prices. You can decide your best time to come to fulfill your Tibet dream.
Besides the weather condition, there are some grand festivals such as Saga Dawa Festival (May/June), Tibetan New Year (February) and Shoton Festival (August). We really enjoyed our 19 day tour of Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet tour arranged by Asian Odyessey. The itinerary was a well-planned 12 days trip from Shanghai to Xining then Lhasa (Tibet).
Our guide, Lobsang Dorje, has been wonderful. He is always available (punctual & responsive on weChat) and ready to go the extra mile accommodating to our dietary (vegetarian) and sanitary demands in Tibet. We are beyond grateful to have him as our guide.
Special thanks to our agent, Shirley, in making this trip possible to planning out the details for our trip e.g., itinerary, accommodation and transportation. We manage to visit all the itinerary that was planned out including Everest Base Camp with additional stopover for sightseeing.
